What an interesting read. I never thought about this in the way you've explained it, but it makes so much sense and explains (at least partially) why I've never fit in well on social media. So much of it has always felt false to me with people (consciously or not) writing for engagement. It gets to the point, as you mentioned, that one Twitter voice is pretty much indistinguishable from another.
In the world of fiction and lit mags, I wonder if there's a similar phenomenon in play, perhaps based on conforming pressure from a different type of social unification desire, one that leaves in its wake a different series of voices that are also pretty much indistinguishable from one another.
Anyway, food for thought. That's what I like, and you bring the yummy. Thanks Justin.
